FILA, surface care specialist, has strengthened its presence the US with a glowing reference from Princeton University in New Jersey.

Nestled in the Princeton University campus sits the Lewis Center for the Arts, a modern building designed by Steven Holl Architects in New York, entirely clad in Lecce Stone.
Winner of several gold medals, Steven Holl is widely- recognised for ground-breaking projects such as the Horizontal Skyscraper in Shenzhen and the Kiasma Finnish contemporary art museum in Helsinki.

Steven Holl has now also left his trademark in the Princeton University project. The complex includes three distinct buildings connected underground with an 8,000-square-foot gathering space upon which stands an outdoor plaza holding a reflecting pool with skylights that filter natural light to the large space below: designed as an open invitation to the public, this gateway aims to link the local community with the university.

FILA was chosen as a technical partner by the manufacturer of Lecce Stone, PI.MAR Srl, in order to preserve the majestic beauty of the building. Following an in-depth study of the material, HYDROREP ECO was chosen as an innovative and ecological product to be applied on the cladding of the Lewis Center for the Arts. The treatment was applied with an airless sprayer by specialised personnel.

Hence, all exterior stone was treated with HYDROREP ECO (water-based, water repellent sealer), the most effective product for this type of stone, guaranteeing maximum protection while staying true to the environmental standards of the project.

Hydrorep Eco inhibits the absorption of water and humidity, delaying the formation of dark spots, mould and lichens (an antifouling layer in accordance with UNI EN ISO 846:1999 standards), defending the Lecce Stone from wear caused by weather exposure.

Hydrorep Eco is ideal for the protection of exterior walls: it’s UV-resistant, guards against efflorescence and is not affected by residual humidity, significantly reducing application time.
