Free Floors for Good Causes

Karndean floor for Birmingham Children’s Hospital
Patients and Staff at Birmingham Children’s Hospital are the latest to benefit from an appeal to award 40 Free Floors for 40 Good Causes, spearheaded by luxury vinyl flooring specialist Karndean Designflooring.

Located in Birmingham City Centre, the hospital was chosen to receive a free floor as part of the company’s 40th anniversary campaign. Karndean donated 100m² of Opus Primo and Art Select Sundown Oak in the main entrance and corridor areas.

Joining forces with local flooring partner Pinnacle Special Projects Ltd, Karndean recommended replacing the existing floor with the Opus range. Designed with commercial specifications in mind, its large format wood floor effect planks are quick to install, a vital requirement for the busy hospital.

“We already had plans to refurbish the main entrance but funds were tight.  It’s a vital area where we meet with families to plan the children’s care to enable them to return home,” commented Amanda Baugh associate clinical director Next Generation, Birmingham Children's Hospital.

Amanda continued: “The funds saved will enable us to further develop our front entrance, adding distractions for children and additional rest areas for families. We are so very grateful; the floor has completely transformed the space and had a positive impact on all our staff and visitors.”

Paul Barratt, managing director of Karndean Designflooring said: “It has been fantastic to make a difference to various individuals and organisations throughout the UK with this appeal.”

“The traditional honey tone and subtle grain of Opus Primo creates a sense of space within the busy reception area of Birmingham Children’s Hospital. Importantly, the thick wear layer will ensure the floor is able to withstand the high amount of traffic and continue to look amazing,” he commented.

Karndean launched its ‘40 Free Floors for 40 Good Causes’ appeal in October 2013 in a bid to help local charities and organisations in the USA, UK, Australia and New Zealand.

The international appeal called on the public to nominate individuals, families, businesses and other worthy causes that they thought deserved to win a free Karndean floor.
