Pure white tiles are the most Instagrammed bathroom interior trend, according to new research from Harvey Water Softeners.

As part of the research, the top 25 posts from over 3.3 million images across five hashtags were analysed to see which interior design features appeared frequently in each individual post. The data also revealed how many likes each design feature would get in an average post.

The top 20 bathroom design trends, in order of frequency in top posts, showed pure white tiles to be the most common feature, gaining an average of 2,870 likes per post. Geometric tiles weren’t far behind in 5th place, coming out on top in terms of likes with an average of 4,668 per post. Other popular additions included marble sink basins, freestanding baths and his and her sinks.

Naomi Nunn, Interior Designer from soak.com, discussed why homeowners are loving these Instagrammable features: “More and more people are embracing colour in the bathroom, so I’m a bit surprised that white tiles are so prominent on Instagram. Freestanding baths are also very coveted- they are really a wishlist or luxury item and, with space being at a premium, companies are introducing more compact versions, allowing more people to embrace this dream at home.

“For those that aren’t set on colourful bathrooms, the black trend just won’t stop! And I’m not surprised, it’s stunning and a really simple way to refresh a bathroom. Changing the metalwork to black and keeping your white suite looks great with greys and woods and that ever-popular greenery too!”

The data was collected from the top 25 posts across the top five bathroom design hashtags (#BathroomDesign, #BathroomGoals, #BathroomDecor, #BathroomIdeas, #BathroomInspo) in August 2019. If the same image featured in the top 25 posts on two hashtags it was not counted twice. The percentage was derived from how many times that bathroom design feature appeared in all of the posts out of all features.
