JOHNSON TILES SUPPORTS MOSAIC MURAL COMMUNITY PROJECT

British ceramics manufacturer Johnson Tiles has donated materials to create a stunning mosaic mural to be enjoyed by the local community in Glasgow.

The symbolic mural, situated in Glasgow’s Queen’s Park Arena, was officially unveiled on Thursday 4th July.

Artist Joanne Dawson was commissioned by Inhouse Events CIC to create the mural, with funding provided by Sustrans, the Walking and Cycling Charity. Joanne turned to Johnson Tiles to provide the tiles required to create the mosaic, with the Stoke-on-Trent-based company donating the materials free of charge.

A real community project, the artwork design was created after consultation with local business owners and primary school children, who were asked to describe what the park symbolises to them.

Artist Joanne Dawson added: “The making of Queens Park Mural has been a greatly fulfilling experience, and truly a collaborative project from start right through to implementation. I’m delighted to have shared the process with pupils, residents and organisations from the local area and I hope it’s enjoyed for many years to come.”

Nigel Stannard, Commercial Director at Johnson Tiles, commented: “Being at the heart of our own community in the Potteries, we understand the importance of engaging local people in creative projects. So, when we were approached to supply the tiles for the Queen's Park mural in Glasgow, we were honoured to help.

“It's fantastic to see the beautiful designs created by the local community using our tiles.”

This is just one of the many charity projects that Johnson Tiles has been involved in recently. April marked the completion of a striking butterfly sculpture in Trentham Gardens, Stoke-on-Trent, crafted from materials donated by the tile manufacturer.

The project, which featured a total of 5,000 ceramic butterflies, was coordinated by the Donna Louise Hospice, with each of the intricate designs available to purchase to raise funds for the charity.

Earlier this year, Johnson Tiles also supported a fundraising venture for the Victoria Baths in Manchester in collaboration with Tile Giant. The in-house design team developed an exclusive product range inspired by the iconic Baths, with a percentage of each tile sold contributing to the Victoria Baths Trust for the restoration of the heritage site.
