Designworks Tiles at Stobo Castle Spa

Designworks Tiles helps create a chic swimming pool and spa for a luxury Scottish hotel.

Destination hotels with stunning spas in the UK are becoming bigger, bolder and even more unique, with guests looking for the ultimate spa experience. From specification through to project completion, there are so many components that help to create perfect pools and spas, especially when it comes to tiles. Designworks Tiles are renowned for their swimming pool mosaics, surrounds and spa-friendly tiles in a range of colours, textures and finishes. Stobo Castle in Scotland is one of their most impressive projects yet, with a 25m UV treated pool, striking panoramic views of the Scottish countryside and giant hydro spa.

With an emphasis on relaxation, escapism and luxury, Stobo Castle spa personifies calm and indulgence. Stobo Pool and Spa has a number of striking features, from metallic tiled accents to deep blue swimming pool mosaics and sleek curved pool surrounds, which when teamed together create a peaceful yet chic haven. Significant advancements in tile printing technology mean that wet-areas in both commercial and domestic settings can embrace a number of styles with slip-resistant wood and stone-effect tiles.

Designworks Tiles supply a wide range of pool mosaics in a whole host of colours and finishes, including glow-in-the-dark options. Their swimming pool mosaics feature a patented JointPoint system which has replaced traditional and less effective mesh material allowing for easier installation and a 92% adhesive grip surface. Their extensive tile offering includes wall and floor tiles in an impressive selection of styles along with statement, innovative mosaics which have been designed specifically for swimming pools.

Dave Foster, Head of Leisure Sales at Designworks Tiles, commented: “The Stobo Pool and Spa project was challenging but we were delighted to be a part of it. We worked with Aquateq Pools on this project, they are based in Glasgow and owned by Ross McKinnon. Ross and myself presented the tiles which were eventually chosen by the owners of Stobo Castle. We visited the site on a few occasions armed with many mosaics and large format tiles before decisions were made. Ross worked extremely hard to get this job over the line and deserves all the credit.”

“We were proud to be appointed as the pool contractor, tasked with completing the design and refurbishment of the pool and spa facilities at the prestigious Stobo Castle in Peeblesshire Scotland,” said Ross McKinnon, Technical Director at Aquateq Pools.

“We worked closely with Dave Foster from Designworks Tiles to come up with a scheme that would meet the hotel’s requirement of a modern look with an elegant feel that would also complement the hotel surroundings.

“Having previously worked with Dave on numerous projects throughout the UK, I had great confidence in the both the quality of the tiles offered from Designworks Tiles as well as the backup and support given by the office team throughout the duration of works.

“Dave helped facilitate a bespoke curved and bullnosed edge tile that went around the perimeter of the oval shaped pool. This was a critical element of the project and would not have been achieved without the assistance of Designworks,” Ross explained.

The project was a resounding success with a very happy client, made possible with the hard work of both the Aquateq Pools & Designworks Tiles team.

Pool and spa surroundings can transform a space but they have to work hard, with floor tiles used in wet areas having to complement colours and textures in and around the pool. Most importantly, they need slip resistant qualities, specifically designed for pool side surrounds.
