A SYSTEM SOLUTION

Norcros Adhesives offers a system solution for wet room tiling

Norcros Adhesives offers a complete solution for wet room tiling.

The popularity of wet rooms in both domestic and commercial applications continues to increase. Despite their growth, these installations are amongst those where problems are most likely to be encountered, and where a system approach to product selection is most important.

A wet room is considered to be an installation where the shower base is at the same level as the floor. Good design, water-resistant background materials, high quality tiles, grouts and adhesives, as well as correct installation methods are all important to achieving a safe and long-lasting wet room.

Norcros Adhesives offers Norcros Pro Board, manufactured from high-density extruded polystyrene. This has a rigid insulation core, featuring a specially formulated reinforced cementitious coating to provide a hardwearing robust and waterproof surface suitable for the application of tiles.

Designed to create a walk-in shower area, Norcros showertrays are manufactured from a high-density polystyrene core and have a reinforced cement coating that is ideal to receive a tiled finish. The trays are manufactured with pre-machined falls enabling water to flow correctly to the drain outlet. They can be easily trimmed to suit the dimensions required.

Norcros provides a number of options when it comes to tile adhesives suitable for wet rooms. Norcros Rapid Porcelain S1 Grey Adhesive is a cement-based thin bed adhesive designed for fixing fully vitrified porcelain, ceramic and stone tiles to a variety of surfaces. Being water-resistant, it is suitable for wet room installations. It has excellent thermal ageing properties and is therefore particularly suitable for heated floors. It is also available in white, to avoid staining when used together with light-coloured stone.

Another option is Standard Set Flexible S1 Tile Adhesive in Grey - a slower setting, highly polymer-fortified adhesive mortar for use on walls and floors. It requires only the addition of water as it is specially formulated with polymeric binders to impart flexibility, water resistance and increased strength – usually only achieved by the addition of polymer admixtures. It is ideal for tiling in heavy duty areas, including commercial showers and locations where thermal variation may occur.

When it comes to grouting, the Norcros 4 into 1 Grouts range is formulated to be both efflorescence-resistant and water-repellant. The formulation contains Norcros Stop Mould Antibacterial additives to protect against mould and discolouration, which can occur in areas subject to moisture or high humidity. The grouts are suitable for use with all types of wall and floor tiles, including natural stone, especially where a narrow fine-textured joint is required.  The grouts have a high flexural strength, meaning they are suitable for use in areas where limited background movement or vibration can occur, such as in heated floors or where tiling has been applied to wooden flooring. They are also suitable for use in wider joint applications of up to 12mm.
